My Journey: Losing $12M

I am a recovering gambling addict for the second time. I lost more than $12 million across stock options, crypto, and sports betting. The losses were so overwhelming that I deleted my main Reddit account—I couldn’t handle the stress, shame, and pressure of losing money, power, and status.

How It All Began

Between July and November 2024, I went all-in on crypto and stocks. I believed there was a high chance that Trump would win, boosting the markets. I convinced myself I was a market genius and started scalping longs around the 200-day moving average.

But then tariffs and other market shocks hit. Prices crashed, indexes went chaotic, and I had never shorted in my life. I normally used dollar-cost averaging, but this time, I didn’t.

The Spiral

I tilted hard and went beyond my initial capital of $3 million USD, trying to recover losses through leveraged crypto, stocks, and $200k–$400k sports bets.

From February to April, I lost everything I had worked for over three years. My past hard work, discipline, and earnings—all gone. It was total regret and despair.

Breaking Point

I emptied all my brokerage accounts because I kept going all-in. Yesterday, I finally self-excluded from sports betting, realizing that even a small win could trigger me to chase losses again.

I wish I had never won the money. Instead of happiness, it brought misery. I no longer appreciated anything—not even the business I had built, which had earned me $3 million over five years.

Moving Forward

I am now seeking therapy and taking a short vacation to reset. I regret my past mistakes deeply, but I hope I can recover and rebuild my life. I know it will take time, discipline, and humility—but I am committed to starting over.
